Don,

It is possible that the move up late Friday may have been somewhat arbitrage driven. If that level held to the close next Friday; it would appear to be well below parity value between put and call options on many stocks that I follow. The upward pressure appears to be partially option driven IMHO.

there is a site called decisionpoint, where you can get all sorts of historical data and charts.

weekly new low has reached level of Dec 1994 - amazing - think about that, now we are near the top of the market but new low is as big as when we are at the bottom of the market (preceding a 3 years bull run).

the econ conditions seem very similar today comparing to 1986, oil and gold now are back to 1986 low, cpi, ppi in both periods are very low, and interest rates were dropping both in 1986 & in 1998 ... A-D line also peaked out in April 1986 while market continued to go higher ... very interesting comparisons.
