Rudedog - Thanks for your response to this post and 27675. I'm glad to hear Rosen is still in the game actively. I also think it's a good move to keep the Hinote. I did not quite understand why CPQ did not broaden their laptop line more quickly. They always seemed to be lagging the leaders timewise in offering new technology. Examples would be the larger screens, lightweights such as the Thinkpad 560, (I don't believe I ever saw a CPQ sub), and high end machines in the thin/wide form factor.

According to a CPQ laptop staffer, the DEC HiNote line will become the premier line, and the DEC laptop management will either run or dominate the laptop management team.

On the topic of DEC/CPQ/laptops, I got an interesting letter from DELL the other day. Being an owner of a DELL laptop, I have been informed that:

"Dell has made a strategic decision to transition from the current Dell notebook end user service provider for return to depot for repair services, Digital Equipment Corporation (Digital), to another service provider. The transition is a result of changes in the industry, specifically the announced acquisition of Digital by a competitor of Dell. ..."

Never knew that DELL used DEC for repair services for their notebooks.
A small but nice side effect of the merger:)
