Also remember that DEC laid off 60,000 people in the last few years, not the 15,000 CPQ is doing. Many DEC folks are relieved just to be on stable ground, since once CPQ integrates, there will probably be job stability unlike anything DEC has seen in 10 years. CPQ regards a layoff of 5% of their workforce as an earthshaking event, the upcoming adjustment is only the second time in CPQ's history that any significant layoffs have occurred. CPQ also has one of the lowest attrition rates in the industry and consistently gets rated among the leaders in 'best place to work'. I think the DEC employees who survive the integration will think they landed in heaven.

Also, the layoff was an additional 2500 added to the previous layoff figure.
