By seismic shift I mean that G7 policy-makers are going to have shift their prime focus from low inflation and free capital flows at all costs to preventing a global depression with associated trade wars and possibly armed conflicts. This will require a reworking of currency relationships -- with gold possibly playing a larger role -- and higher inflation in the developed counties. The mantra of low inflation at all costs has just about reached its limit.
