The difference between Compaq + Digital and Compaq or Digital alone can not be overstated in my opinion. Compaq has really pulled off a good move here. Regardless of the Alpha, I see the DEC/CPQ paring as very positive.

_IF_ (and that's a big if) CPQ plays it's Alpha card correctly they could be the sole 64 bit competition to Intel when Merced comes out (and many years past that).

All I am saying is don't count the ALpha out. So many people on this thread seem ready to discredit the Alpha as being too expensive, too fast, too hot, etc. These are all excuses that people use towards Intel's high-end chips and people still buy them by the boat load. Don't make the same mistake the AMD and NSM investors are making right now. (Not that I am saying Investing in NSM or AMD is a mistake mind you, just that discounting intel's high-end is a mistake).
