DLL,
Excellent, your last post was taken right out of my keyboards mouth <VBG>! I enjoyed
"His name will be translated into many languages as he promises to save people from every tribe, tongue and nationality"

In my previous post, the fact that the Lord ceased to read at this **point in Isaiah 61 vs 2 is an example of prophecy in real time.

Is 61:2
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, ** and the vengence of our God, to comfort all that mourn.

Had Christ (Yeshua) read the "and the vengeance of our God" portion he would committed an error as that day is still future. By correctly interpreting it, rightly dividing the word of truth, he not only proved perfect knowlege of the scripture but actually did announce the fulfillment of the prophecy as he says in Luke 4:22.
In so doing and by obviously referencing himself and his ministry (just beginning) with this same statement he credentials Himself as not only a prophet but THE Prophet, the one like unto Moses, the Second Adam; in essence, the Man child the Jewish people had been waiting for since Abraham and believers waiting for since before Abraham.....The Redeemer.
This claim being so outrageous to a strict and formal religious culture who saw him grow up! Hence verse 24 (no prophet is accepted in his own country) and the violent reaction of the town people.
I liked your reply DLL that spiritual and physical meanings apply...
often the case and similar to how prophecy also often references past present and future in one statement.
Gregory, I am not familiar with some of your references, I find the syrian one intriguing, thanks. And yes, Roebear is phonetic French for Robert (I am not French, but American with a French heritage) among quite a few meanings which my 'manufactured' handle has, most of which refer to stocks, investing etc.
BTW,
Perhaps we stray somewhat from Janes original "Chat with God" (I almost typed in "Chart with God" which would make this the #1 SI thread I am sure <ggg>) yet until we are familiar and comfortable with His Word our conversations with God are hindered. Nevertheless I am sure He is always glad to hear us, but like any father, at times He must wish we would grow up <GGG>!

Dan, I am blowing the dust off the Interlinear, no time to respond now so feel free to elucidate!!

Have a pleasant weekend all,

Roebear

Don,

Hmmm... I'm not sure there's much more to say about the event in Galilee. According to Luke, Jesus starts His ministry by implying He is the Messiah.

The eschatological implications of the Messianic event are, as yet, unfulfilled. I once had more interest in "the end"; however, it just seems to be a quagmire of interpretations. I still enjoy the poetry of Revelation; probably for the same reasons I enjoy Dante's Inferno more than Purgatorio or Paradiso. Also, I just recently picked up a copy of I Enoch.

You consider yourself to have a personal relationship with Jesus. I do not, so I don't experience the same rapturous joy as you might when reading about the beginning of Christianity. Sorry.

There is one interesting point that has just occurred to me... Do you believe Jesus intended to start a church?

Greg
