Telxon Enhances Mobile Computing Performance in
Pen-Based Products with Windows CE

AKRON, Ohio, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Telxon Corporation (Nasdaq: TLXN - news)
announced today that its popular PTC-1124 ruggedized, pen-based computer with integrated wireless connectivity will be enhanced to support AMD's ElanSC400(TM) processor operating at 66MHz and available in Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE.

''The PTC-1124 has recently been awarded major rollouts with customers such as Schindler Elevator Company / Millar Elevator Service Company (Schindler / Millar) and Emery Worldwide,'' said Frank E. Brick, president and CEO of Telxon. ''These enhancements to the
PTC-1124 will offer Telxon's customers increased computing performance and the Windows CE operating system for mobile computing,'' he explained.

The current PTC-1124 is based on a 50MHz 486SLC processor and supports MS- DOS(R), PenRight!(R) and Windows for Workgroups. General availability of both the new ElanSC400 based architecture and Windows CE is slated for the fourth quarter of the current calendar year.

''Telxon has a history of responding to the needs and desires of our sophisticated customer base who have been requesting support for Windows CE and increasing computing performance,'' Brick said. ''Working with ISI Design, AMD and Microsoft, we are pleased to
deliver on our promise of migration paths to increased levels of performance and functionality.''

''With the large customer acceptance and positive feedback generated by Windows CE
version 2.0 we are convinced this is the right time to provide this option to our customer and
ISV base,'' Brick continued. ''Microsoft has a strong following of application developers and
we are excited to offer them a true ruggedized mobile computing platform on which to develop
applications.''

The ElanSC400 is a highly integrated device based upon an embedded x486 architecture
operating at speeds up to 100MHz.

''Moving to the ElanSC400 allows us to offer desktop computing performance in a product
which fits in the palm of your hand and requires no active cooling element,'' Brick explained.
''The ElanSC400 fits in well with our multi-tiered mobile computing architecture. We now offer
products with varying computing power based upon end user requirements. Our product line
now consists of entry level with a 16-bit x86 core, mid range based upon the SC400 and high
end with the Pentium(R) architecture.''

''The ElanSC400 core combined with Microsoft's Windows CE operating system coupled
with Telxon's innovative mobile computing extensions such as on-screen signature capture,
image based barcode scanning, integrated wireless LAN and WAN radios and advanced
power management should position the enhanced PTC-1124 to compete with the best,'' said
Stewart Skomra, senior director of product marketing for Telxon.

''Telxon's selection of Windows CE as the platform for their next generation of mobile
computing devices is significant for our customers,'' said Todd Weatherby, group marketing
manager, retail and supply chain at Microsoft. ''Telxon is a leading producer of handheld
devices and their impressive customer base will benefit from a rapidly increasing set of
applications that take advantage of the Windows CE platform and Win32 development
environment, as well as tight integration with Windows NT Server.''

''AMD is excited by Telxon's decision to base its new mid-range mobile computing
architecture around the ElanSC400 microcontroller architecture,'' said Bob McConnell, vice
president of embedded products division for AMD. ''In addition to providing the
time-to-market advantage of the x86 architecture, the ElanSC400 processor has the optimum
combination of processing power, power management capability and peripheral integration
that Telxon requires. The combination of Telxon, Microsoft and AMD will create a powerful new
level of capability in the mobile computing marketplace.''
