Your comments are right on the money, that red card did make a big difference in the result, and I agree with you in the red card, I noticed that up to that point the game was becoming extremely physical, three yellow cards, prior to the red one, and then that tackle from behind.

The referee never doubted and the Korea was out one man.

Amazingly, the Koreans kept on going, I assume the idea was to attempt to get a second goal to secure victory, but it never happened, so they gambled and lost badly, perhaps the better decision would have been to play defensively to keep the lead, and at worst get out with a tie.

The early Mexican equalizer (in the second half), and the substitutions indeed energized the Mexican team .

This was the FIRST Mexican victory in a WC on EUROPEAN soil for Mexico, I hope they can do it again.

Yes the best WC ever, so far... I hope the quarter, semi finals, and final will do justice to these early games.

Enjoy...

Arellano (Mexico) showed that he has a massive potential.

George:

Didn't S.Korea beat Italy in 1966?

About Holland and Belgium:

I'll give Belgium the award for figuring how to use their hands in a soccer game - who said the goalkeeper could only use his hands?

The defense excelled at using their hands to grab the Dutch shirts...

And besides that was good at frustrating the Dutch who then elbows #3 on Belgium in the chest and the guy goes down clutching his face like he has been smashed in the face...

An Oscar award to #3 on Belgium...

(though the Dutch player should not have used his elbow...)

On the game: the Dutch were clearly the superior team. A good example of this was when they were down to 10 men - they still outplayed the 11 Belgians by far!

I think the weakness for Holland was the lack of penetration by the right winger (#10) - he could not seem to beat his defender, he did not put on the bursts of speed you expect of wingers and did not take on his man with any conviction - not many good crosses came in from the right - he looked tired.

the other winger was exceptional - Dutch #14...

after #10 was subbed, #14 went to the right wing and then notice the advances that were coming from the right...

the Dutch were much more skillful...

for instance they won every ball in the air...

they as a team anticipated the Belgian passes better than many other teams that I have seen in a long time...

and were much faster than the Belgians...

Best players of the game: Dutch #14 and the Dutch captain...

Belgium was lucky - 2 or 3 goal-line chances were diverted by on the line saves + 1 clear miss of an open net by a Dutch forward in the first half...

shane.
