Ed, This is another reason that I fear Amazon may pull a Presstek on me. The shares are very tough to borrow. Folks on the Amazon threads are all saying there is very little available.

I don't know the name in this case, but the most likely firms to have shares to offer are the lead investment banker and Merrill Lynch. If Mother Merrill is also the lead IB, better yet.

But, yes, the fear of having a phone call telling you to return the shares you borrow is very real in this case. And which customer do you think they'd rather indispose, you or Soros? Of course, they're likely to get a few more shares back from Georgie. <G>

The shortage of shares is one of the reasons why the puts are sky high. None look like bargains. But this stock has huge downside and that is another reason for the premiums. I prefer out of the moneys about 4-6 months out, and right now, these premiums make me do a double-take.

Ed:

<<<Any ideas on how to short Amazon? >>>

You might sell a deep (and i do mean DEEP) in the money call and also buy the stock. When you are ready to "short", sell the stock. This set up also lends itself to day trading or near term position trading since you simply sell and buy stock to uncover or cover your short.

Any comments on this technique?
