Smart Money, part two:

This gets better and better. I just went to their web-site to find an E-mail address to send the letter to. In their on-line edition, dated June 1998, they have another article on the semi-equips. The article with the factual errors, also dated June 1998, is in the print edition, and recommends buying the stocks. The article in the online edition pans the stocks. In addition to not checking their facts, they don't worry too much about consistency.

Jacob, good factual letter to SM! I double-checked the late '97 low
and found lowest close: 26 1/8 and lowest low: 25 1/2

You said [to SM] >Your writers are sloppy, and your editors obviously don't check the writer's facts.<

I agree fully. I had the unpleasant experience of being completely
misquoted by SM in an article on SI in their April '97 issue.
The writer did not check back with me to verify , as he had promised,
before the mag was printed. I wrote to SM to point out their
error, but did not receive a reply.

Relevant is an article by Thomas Sowell in Forbes titled
"Check it out". Dr. Sowell, an economist and senior fellow
at the Hoover Institution in Stanford, is my hero and his
columns exude common sense. Recommended for all:
