Good afternoon Bachman,

I did not mean to imply that Dell does not do R&D. But from what I understand, much of it is process R&D as opposed to the kind of R&D that Intel or Seagate does. As I recall, MD alluded to this in the HBR article. In essence, Dell's R&D efforts are more focused on inventory, marketing and assembly issues than electronics design. I believe this is one of the strengths of this remarkable company because it allows it to take full advantage of the value chain concept.
