>>Please do us a favor and tell us what sources<<

Joe, I wish I could give sources, but the statememts I made are from observations browsing a lot of previous article and announcements on contracts.

- Margin erosion in NIC. In late 96 and early 97 Intel launched a full fleged attact to NICs. The effect is being felt now. Although 3com has been able to keep the leading market share it has been because they have a better product and more impotantly drastic cut in the prices to match Intels. Modems are beings made by every one and the 56K modems are not the intellectual property of 3com to get big royalty.

- Losing existing base and not getting new contracts. Well I believe that america online was a big customer for RA products. How many recents contracts have you heard from them or any major ISPs. AOL chose ascend for major expansion in Europe a few days back. GTE awarded ascend a big contract even though cisco has a preffered relationship. Why was 3com out? dont know? Sure 3com must be getting contracts but not enough to support the expenses of a 10 billion company. ASND CSCO are gearing to network half of a country.

I do not know what strategy coms has to offer? If they dont get the act together they may get cheaper.
