Wonderful detailed response to techie. Techie is a good foil to sharpen our understanding of Dells competitive situation.

C, I don't have time to post the same points over & over again. Time will show you who is right and who is wrong. I certainly hope you won't have to give back all your Dell profits as tuition.

The indirect guys had to protect their existing biz. That's not because of the barrier to entry, but you couldn't figure that out. A newcomer won't have that issue to dwell with.

The semi industry is experiencing a slowdown, the entire street knows that but let's make it a secret on this thread.

Asians would continue doing exactly what they did. They will dump as long as their variable cost is less than the price they can get for their product. You are a financial analyst, so you should at least get that part.

Dell claims they don't compete on price. If they start doing that they will certainly suffer on the margins. Which by the way WILL HAPPEN because they won't be able to survive unless they drop their bloated prices. Whether or not this will happen because their competition will operate on laser thin margins is totally irrelevant to this discussion. IF CPQ was an expensive stock would that automatically make Dell an inexpensive stock?

There are too many Texans on this thread with too many friends working at Dell. I'll say that's a subjective, distorted view of the world.

I salute you for your patience in dealing with the Kaufman Brothers.

Chuzz...I don't get over to this thread often enough...I see there is a new Bear on the thread that has to learn from experience, Mr. Techie...We've had our share of notable Bears, with seemingly good arguments, but when earnings come out they disappear...Where are people like Candlestick, the McNabb Brothers, Ludicrous and the others?...Techie will be the next casualty...The Bears do provoke thought but the answers are still the same ---DELL's still growing and growing strong...bottom line.

Regards, George
