"After researching SEEC (SEEC), I found the company is focusing on mission critical operations. While the core of SEEC's business is derived from helping companies make the transition from old mainframes to PC-based environments, its Year 2000 solutions software is representing an increasingly larger proportion of revenues. The problem with Y2K conversion isn't rewriting the code, but the expensive, time-consuming and critical task of testing the code. SEECs' Accutest is the most comprehensive product for reengineering COBOL to become Year 2000 compliant. As companies begin to realize the danger of neglecting the millennium bug, it's expected that corporations and governments will rush to find the most effective solution provider. With a host of new contracts recently signed with MCI and the states of Washington and Michigan, SEEC is poised to report strong revenue growth. For fiscal 1998, SEEC reported $12.5 million in revenues, an increase of 370 percent over the prior year. On a P/E basis, the company trades at a significant discount to its expected long-term earnings growth rate of 30 percent, which has to do with the fact it's a small cap and has limited history. SEEC looks like it has considerable earnings momentum. If it can sustain it, SEEC should be able to attract a higher valuation. It's a good play in the Year 2000 compliance market and not a bad stock to consider for the portfolio".
