Harry old news but still interesting nortel.com nortel.com WCOM's lobbying power in Europe would have to come from MFS. They were the first one there. I don't know much about MFS. MCI may have some clout. The media thinks Europe is a big issue. MCI-WCOM thinks it's a done deal. Just a little good-old European haggling before the Ts are crossed and the Is are dotted. I don't know what to make of it. This European thing is confusing since I do not understand their politics. I tend to think of Europeans as a bunch of tree hugging environmentalists who have pillaged and plunder there own land and neighboring land and are now the self-proclaimed authorities on conservation. MFS organization is a big question mark for me; however, my impression of WCom, as whole, is that they are more technocratic rather than diplomatic; but on further reflection, WCOM may be more diplomatic than I originally gave them credit for. A number of directors at WCOM are lawyers. Then under the lawyers there is layer of engineers from senior managers down to managers, even a few PhDs running around. There are few MBA's at WCOM. It is a very flat organizational structure. At WCOM it is not uncommon for a propeller-head like myself to give presentations to directors. Contrast this with MCI. I haven't even met my director and after a month and a half finally met my senior manager. Also, WCOM swaps managers around at a phenomenal rate. A manager has 6 months in a group then off to another. Lachesis
