joe, I think the first sign of trouble came when USRX flooded and stuffed the channels with x2 modems hoping it would become a de-facto standard vs k56Flex. But USR under-estimated the strength of Roachwell and some really agressive sales by motorola (a real close-out sale). x2 modems never picked up the required momentum.

Added to it a delay of standard from Sept 97 to Feb 98 - really hurts everybody - with the end result Mot dropped out from modem business and every other modem companies bleeding red ink.

Of course the Asia problems since September last year is the most fundamental problem for every high-tech company. But I doubt very much how bad really is coms being affected by Asia. I think the impact of Asia on coms should be quite small since companies like Asnd and csco don't seems to be affected at all.

With the inventory adjustment being basically finished, coms should be able to resume its normal sequential growth rate.
