Penni, I am quite concerned about you starving yourself to the extent that dart boards look pretty yummy. A glass of V-8 all day is not enough to fuel an energetic domestic goddess like you while you do seven loads of laundry and sweep, mop, dust and vacuum. It is not even enough if you still have that woman coming in, and you are just sitting in front of the keyboard, writing. Do you like rice cakes? They have some really good flavors now, and enough styrofoam per ounce to keep your tummy pretty full until dinner time. It's too bad you wasted all those calories on soggy, yucky fish and chips, though. Somehow I did not think an Irish bar in Texas sounded like much more than indigestion in the making, and of course we all have at least heard that English food is even worse, although my shepherd's pie is very warm and comforting. Too bad I have not figured out how to make it with soy crumbs instead of ground beef yet!! I do not know whether Blue is dreaming of being a fierce hunter as he lies asleep with his chubby, stretched out legs, fat from prey skillfully caught and upscale scrumptuous little canned meaty mousse products, but I do know that this poem from the eighteenth century reminds me of myself and my old Lizzie. Now if only I were a good and serious poet!! from The Retired Cat A poet's cat, sedate and grave, As poet well could wish to have, Was much addicted to inquire For nooks, to which she might retire, And where, secure as mouse in chink, She might repose, or sit and think. I know not where she caught the trick-- Nature perhaps herself had cast her In such a mould philosophique, Or else she learn'd it of her master. William Cowper 1831-1800
