I disagree with your assessment of Lott's appearance. Seemed to me he wanted to avoid the impression he was prejudging the issue. He was very adamant in his position that the matter needed investigation. JLA

Lott was very very concerned, saying that a full fledged investigation is underway. But he also admitted that proving beyond a reasonable doubt the quid pro quo will be difficult.

Perhaps that is what buoys your optimism.
