George, I hear the same sort of crap all the time.

"Why did you buy small cap American stocks when large cap European stocks were undervalued?"

"Because small caps is what we do." <G>

Nope, small brains are what they do.

The original idea behind a mutual fund was that somebody with greater resources than the individual would make decisions about what to buy and what to sell. Now, mutual fund companies have ceded that responsibility to individuals and financial advisors. Sad.

The thing that makes me most unhappy is that this stifling environment in mutual fund management simply cannot foster another John Templeton or Phil Carret. If you think innovatively, get out of Dodge. I blame it on the irresponsible management of guslingers and crooks (the gunslingers were not crooks, just idiots) back in the 1960s. Now nearly everyone in the business is dull and plain vanilla. As the folk song goes, "And they're all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same." <G>
