UNIQUE ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN ULTRA PETROLEUM AND PACIFICORP
WILL HELP CLEAR THE AIR IN WYOMING

Date: 6/15/98 4:23:35 PM
Stock Symbol: UP

Ultra Petroleum Corp. and PacifiCorp today announced an innovative
environmental agreement to proactively reduce Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions
and contribute to protecting the air quality in Wyoming.

PacifiCorp., which owns and operates the Naughton Power Plant at Kemmerer in
Southwestern Wyoming and Ultra Petroleum, a Canadian gas exploration and
development company operating nearby in the Green River Basin, have entered
into a unique and voluntary, "Nitrogen Oxide Reduction Agreement."

PacifiCorp will install low NOx burners by 1999 at its Naughton Plant which
will reduce its emissions by at least 1,000 tons per year. Ultra will share
equally in the estimated $5 million cost of this advanced technology. This
emissions reduction will provide a cushion for future NOx emissions created
by Ultra during its gas field activities in the Green River Basin area of
Wyoming.

Nitrogen oxides are gaseous by-products of burning fossil fuels and
automobile exhaust is a major urban source of NOx in the atmosphere. Other
industrial activities such as electricity generation, natural gas compression
and evaporation along pipelines and oil rigs also contribute.

"This agreement between Ultra Petroleum and PacifiCorp demonstrates that
when management is willing to think beyond the confines of conventions,
everyone can benefit. The State of Wyoming and the people who live and work
in the region are all winners today. Ultra is proud to be part of this
agreement," says Jerry Albertus, President of Ultra Petroleum.

The Naughton Plant already meets or exceeds federal and state Clean Air Act
requirements says PacifiCorp's general business director, Bob Tarantola and
adds, "Our company has a long history of working to protect the environment
and this project goes hand-in-hand with this commitment."

PacifiCorp, which operates as Pacific Power in Wyoming, serves 1.4 million
customers with electricity and related services in the western United States.

Ultra Petroleum Corp. has its head office in Vancouver, British Columbia and
operational headquarters in Denver Colorado. It is actively engaged in oil
and gas exploration and development, primarily in the Green River Basin in
Southwest Wyoming, with field offices in Pinedale and Casper.
