At the end of the show it was apparent service providers have a lot to choose from. The mainstays of LU and NT clearly were dominant legacy companies. Cisco looked real and ASND looked like an integral player although more a sideline than anything else. BAY and COMS were pathetic. No service provider in their right mind would go with them if this was their first exposure to those companies.

Judging a company by its trade show performance is like choosing a wife by comparing women in a department store cosmetics' section. Good luck!

Using that standard, you'd sell all your TXN and buy NT. I think TI's engineers drew straws after a couple rounds at the local bar and the loser had to design the booth.

Newbridge's booth was a class act in every way --- design, technology , staff --- when I asked about meeting Mr. Lutz, I was escorted to someone they thought would know, and there introduced to the person in charge of his schedule. Another time I stopped by to ask about Efficient Networks' ATM/ADSL demo and was given the royal treatment from the get-go. And I'm not saying this to patronize a company I like. I have a far bigger position in TXN and about the only thing exciting about their presentation was the fact I knew half the people running it. But, imagine what they could have done! With the technology their chips power, they could have outdone NT and LU combined. If I were Engibous, I'd find out who did NT's (they won best of show), and sign them up for next year.

You mentioned NN was left out of Gary's Supercomm summary. All this says is that he missed it. I'm far more upset when they're left out when networkers are mentioned in the press.

Mr. Lutz has assured me marketing is high on his list of priorities.

Later --
