Jeff - Re: "Now do you suppose we have reached a crossover where conferences will publish proceeding papers on an CD instead of those massive paper tombs? "

Apparently yes!

The IEDM is doing it and the VLSI symposium is doing it!

I have "seen" the IEDM CD-ROM - it makes it INCREDIBLY easy to search through all the papers to find what you are looking for, all the graphics are perfectly clear and the text is exact. Clearly technology at it's finest.

As for saving a few trees - YES!

A case in point - the Telephone companies should be compelled to offer phone books on CD-ROM or on the Internet. That would not only reduce tree cutting, but it would compel the non-PC users to buy PCs.

I use the word "COMPEL" - not force.
