dan--

EXCELLENT POST, but a few thoughts...

cross CY off the list. too much in computers, and SRAM is a bloodbath.

AMD has that nice facility in austin at .25 mu, but they are really just learning how to use it. however, plant an equipment at a semi company can be deceptive which i think from your comments you understand. whats worth a billion today is worth a tenth that in 2-3 years.

still, i agree with you on IDTI and VLSI being good companies for a merger. with the cash you could very easily pick up some decent properties in asia. might be good for AMD to pick them up. i dont AMD has much in wireless.

IDTI looks ugly to a lot of people though because they are in the low priced processor market. to me though they look pretty good. if memory serves they did winchip for peanuts. i think their entire design team was 20 people or less. thats good expense control to me<G>.

what would make them look REALLY good was if a decent sized PC OEM would commit to using winchip. but here again, gartner and dataquest have everyone so scared about ANYTHING related to PCs that no one realizes the computers are actually selling.

i didnt buy VLSI because of a takeover either. i bought VLSI because it is much too cheap. however, if the only way the value of the stock can be realized is a merger, then thats OK with me. as long as whoever is smart enough to buy does the deal with stock, not cash<G>.

good luck to all,
trey
