Banning the countries of origin of these hooligans from the World Cup wouldn't really solve the problem, although I understand your anger. You are correct, however I am so frustrated..... . I feel sorry for other British supporters, who are being disgraced by a minority of aggressive drunken animals. England is not to blame; the hooligans are. Agreed, I for one, used to love the sport, and eventually lost interest because of all this senseless violence, which at one point it even reached the field itself, I became very ashamed of mentioning I was interested in the sport, let alone saying I played it with great enthusiasm once.I do, however, fault the French and British police for not seeing this coming. There should have been a far greater police presence in the Old Port. What a shame. Agree and Disagree. Unless you create an atmosphere of Police State, then again, I guess it warrants it, but in doing so you destroy what otherwise it is supposed to be a great celebration of competition and sportsmanship. And how about a law mandating a minimum 2-year prison sentence (without parole, of course) for hooliganism, enforced by the European Community? Now THAT would send the message loud and clear that HOOLIGANISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. ABSOLUTELY YES!! It is high time for criminals to pay for their deeds, no ifs, buts, or "do-gooderism". Enough of bending the rules so the "poor" criminal turns out to be an "inocent" result of society. No more patronizing the demented, if one commits a criminal act, save the lawyers, the appeals and all the rest, if you are proven guilty, you pay, end of story. And in addition to the two years, the hooligans should pay restitution to whoever became affected by it, with punitive interest on top of it. I am now, calmed down, so I will let England win.... that is if they have the ability. Z.
