The drawback to DLT would seem to be the mechanized process, yet there should always be a need for cheap storage. I'm not sure the definition of cheap. Do disks push tape out of the "cheap" end for storage?

The rate of decline in the components of disk storage seems to outpace that of tape. If this continues I think that provides the answer; disks will be cheap storage. I'm not sure of the time frame though. To be frank, I'm not sure what the starting point is today. Those figure you mentioned, Yogi, would be of interest.

This is gut feeling talking though, for my knowledge of the technology is simple. I would expect Mr. Ruettgers has a good handle on these things.
