I guess no one would accuse you or me of being ...wanting ...or caring to be politically correct ;-)

edit
I take that back

I guess there is a tad of the P.C. in you after all....

I guess we look at this differently, Fred

I do take offense at racial slurs--I think that it is uncouth, insensitive and derogatory.

As far as a member of a racial group using a slur against another member of the same racial group--yes I have heard that happen -- and I do view that as different because it is between two members who presumably understand the sensitivity of the other person. I have even known this to happen between friends who are members of different racial groups--who kid each other with these terms.

I think that it is a wholly different matter when someone uses such language on a public board where the context and intent are not known.

>>So where does that leave me,
Mr. White'eeee - Honkey - Spoiled Ass American - Yankee....?
Well...I've said all "them" words and been called them too.<<

I'd have responded the very same way if someone had posted to you or anyone else and called them the terms that you used above.

Simply put, it is possible to convey on SI, what one is trying to say without stooping to the use of racial slurs.

Personally I prefer to be called "Blue-Eyed Devil", if you don't mind. <e>

>>Don't look so deep into them words...but everyone does and takes things the wrong way no matter how hard you try. <<

Thanks for pointing out the edit

Given what you say, it is all the more imperative to recognize that when one is dealing with others--of varying back-grounds-- in a public forum, one needs to be aware that offense can be caused. So it makes a lot of sense to refrain from using language that can be taken out of context.

Fred,

I disagree with you. I only know of two ethnic groups, in this country, that disparage themselves. The young people refer to their women as "ho's" and one group does use the "n" word as you say. It is pretty stupid to slur yourself (ethnic group) and then after blurring the line, expect other groups to know where that line is!

I don not think anyone should slur themselves or slur others. One starts gaining respect from others, by first respecting him or herself and their respective race.

I was at a concert in Reno, a couple of years ago. The singer, I had gone to see, had a comedian (who happens to be black) as a show opener. He put down whites throughout his routine. He even "bad mouthed" a group of whites coming in late. If a white comedian had behaved as he has, just in reverse, the Rev. J. Jackson would have been on a plane to Reno the next day! (I use to like that singer, not any more!)

A couple of ethnic groups seem to think it is alright (God only knows why it seems to be politically correct) to slur whites. I am a white American of European ancestry. We deserve respect, also.

Regards,
LG
