Usenetter reviews Quest:

_________________
Well the games been out, its the first real RPG for the N64 and nobody is
talking about it. Hmmm..... not a good sign. Anyhow, I thought Id review
the game by breaking it up into the positives and negatives. Please note, I
love rpgs and have been playing them since Phantasy Star for the Sega
Master System. Well here goes:

POSITIVES
- beautiful graphics (they really do look great, walk around in the first
castle and you'll see what I mean)
- innovative battle system (you can dodge enemy attacks by moving at the
appropriate time, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, depending on the
projectile hurled at you)
- interesting looking beasties (yeah, some may be cute but the monster
variety is cool)

NEGATIVES
- cookie-cutter story (theres nothing really spice here to sink your teeth
into, standard quests, beat this guy to get access to this area, and the
dialog is bone-dry and not very interesting)
- take three steps and battle..... repeat (dont you just HATE this, its
very bad in this game and an extreme annoyance, you can easily escape
battles but why you have to fight at this frequency is beyond me,
definitely an rpg no-no and turn-off)
- no currency system (people give stuff to you, you cannot buy anything in
the game, very strange)
- very little upgrading (you have a staff but cant upgrade it to a better
weapon, no upgrading of armor either, the only upgrading you do is you
learn new spells)
- battles get boring and can be lopsided at first (after a while with the
frequency of combat, things just get tedious on the battlefield, plus you
are alone yet sometimes are facing 4 to 5 pretty strong enemies, seems as
though the game requires to build up experience by fighting, ok at first
but this quickly becomes a drag)
- the game is just....boring (overall when you weigh everything up it
doesnt really excite the player, tedious battles and uninteresting
story-line sink this game in the end)

Well there you have it, this is more of an RPG-lite than a true RPG. I
must admit I like a lot of pretty graphics but its hard for that alone to
keep me interested in this one. Definitely rent this one first before
buying. Its NOT a bad game, just incredibly mediocre. Whats more
disappointing is thinking what this game COULD HAVE been. Maybe in Quest64
2.
