Interesting PC newsoids:

Asia Pacific PC Stores See Big Jump In Q1 Shipments - Dataquest
newsbytes.com

Note that the increase is in unit shipments, not dollar sales. With the large drop in ASP the increase in shipments is not surprising -- just a normal traveling down the demand curve. Still, 88% year over year growth is nothing to sneeze at.

IBM Plans Alliance With IMSI On Speech-Recognition Software
interactive.wsj.com

Here's an interesting excerpt:
IMSI plans to gradually integrate IBM's ViaVoice continuous-speech-recognition technology into about 30 of its software products, including voice-activated software used for computer-aided drafting.
Yes my friends, AUI is coming.

Video card the culprit in the case of the missing speed
herald.com

This article isn't particularly interesting, I just linked it because it contains a staggering quantity of gross errors. The writer really has no concept of what he's talking about.

Re: PalmPilot

As a longtime Pilot user (going on a year now) I can tell you:

Pilots are NOT a substitute for PCs of any sort. In fact, the Pilot is -designed- to be used with a PC. It's standalone utility is not all that great -- a paper organizer like a Dayrunner would be better.

Also, the Pilot with cumulative sales of still less than 2 million units hardly merits the kind of attention it has received.

Check back again in a generation or two, when the Pilot gets more horsepower and more storage. Flashram, anyone?

God bless,
PX
