Germany - Insurance companies and Viagra - HUGE money! As probably anywhere in the world also in Germany its a big issue whether insurance companies will pay for Viagra or not. The numbers in question are that huge, that officials are worried that it could actually cause the system to collapse! Here are the numbers: In Germany the insurance companies pay 33 billion DM (about 18 billion $) a year for medicine. One pill Viagra is about 20 German Mark ($11). An estimated 7.5 mio men suffer from impotence in Germany. If you pay them 2 pills a week this would cost 15 billion DM, which is nearly half of all current medicine cost of the insurance companies! There were discussions to ban prescriptions of Viagra altogether to protect the system from collapsing. But for legal reasons this would only be possible if ED would be declared a "minor" disease (don't ask me for the exact definitions and terms, I am not an expert on this and I lack the appropriate English expressions for that). Now a spokesperson of the ministry of health decleared there were NO such plans. --- Thought, this might be interesting to the readers of this thread. I am new to SI and to this thread or rather I read a lot but this is my first posting here (Please excuse my poor English, English is not my mother tongue).
