Best Selling PC Games Week of May 31--June 6

From www.pcgamer.com

"Starcraft continues to hold the number one position, despite determined assaults from Unreal. Meanwhile Titanic continues to stay afloat with no icebergs in sight, while Deer Hunter pulls out ahead in PC gaming's hottest new genre--half-priced hunting games.

Moving down the charts, Might & Magic VI drops off the top ten list, but 3DO's other recent release Army men continues to hold its own. Lara Croft continues to pull in the fans with her "gold" edition, and finally, Broderbun's bread (Myst) and butter (Riven) continue to hold their own, even though Broderbund itself is rumored to be up for sale.

Rank Title Publisher

1 Starcraft
2 Unreal
3 Titanic
4 Deer Hunter
5 Myst
6 Rocky Mtn Trophy Hunter
7 Big Game Hunter

Computer Gaming World (Aug. 1998)

Review gave High Heat 2/5 stars.

Appeal: Gamers whose cities have banned all other baseball games.
Pros: Good fielding AI; solid statistical engine; realistic gameplay
Cons: No draft; no remote or LAN play; limited stats; misses the mark on rudimentary baseball aspects; too many other gaffes to list.

It gave Triple Play 99 only 2 1/2 of 5 stars.

Review gave M&MVI 4 1/2 of 5 stars.

Appeal: All fantasy RPG fans, especially Might and Magic groupies.
Pros: Epic game; challenging gameplay; immersive 3D graphics; great turn-based/real-time combat system; addictive.
Cons: Characters start out too weak and advance slowly; all races eliminated from previous games except humans; game is balanced very tough against players.

Ironically, PC Gamer gave High Heat a rating of 87% and, if I recall correctly, said it was one of the, if not the, best baseball game out there. It gave Triple Play 99 a similarly negative rating of ~64%.

Neither of the magazines' website had these reviews up.
