Acclaim Entertainment Pushes the Edge of Technology and Terror with Shadowman

GLEN COVE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1998--

Acclaim Comics' Voodoo Warrior Introduces Psychological

Horror to the PC

Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKLM), a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced the development of Shadowman(TM), a 3D action / adventure game for the PC. Based on the graphic, cutting-edge Acclaim Comics(tm) character of the same name and developed by Acclaim's Iguana UK studio, Shadowman will be released in early 1999.

Shadowman is the troubled alter ego of Mike LeRoi, a New Orleans hitman who gets caught up in the mysterious world of voodoo. Implanted with a spiritual mask by a high priestess, LeRoi becomes Shadowman. Imbued with the mystical powers of a voodoo warrior and armed with conventional and black magic weapons, Shadowman walks between worlds to wage war against a cabal of demons and their legions of otherworldly psychos. Traveling between Liveside, which is reality, and Deadside, an alternative reality where souls go before passing on to the next world, Shadowman tracks the demons in an effort to save the world from their plan to break into the Liveside and unleash deadly powers.

"Shadowman is being developed specifically for the PC gamer," said Don Jackson, PC product manager at Acclaim Entertainment. "The mysterious nature of the character, unique setting and adult themes are perfect for the more discerning PC audience."

Shadowman is a unique 3rd-person action adventure with multiple views and player-controlled camera capabilities. It features groundbreaking graphical treatments and a brand new game engine known as VISTa (Virtually Integrated Scenic Terrain) designed by Acclaim Studios' Iguana UK. This new engine creates huge atmospheric environments that allow players to see as far as the horizon in any direction and to travel to any visible location in the distance. In addition, the game features an awesome arsenal of both conventional and voodoo weapons, an immersive adventure aspect that requires players to track down serial killers, and an unconventional non-linear storyline that revolutionizes the genre.

"Shadowman does what few other games have even attempted - that is to get in the gamer's head," said Ed Fortune, Acclaim marketing manager. "This is a game that features breathtaking graphics, defies genre stereotypes, and still delivers the awesome playability that today's hardcore gamers have come to expect."

Vincent -thanks for the update-Even though I am 3 times as old as the 17 year olds, I buy a number of the sports games because I want to get a first hand glimpse of the technologies-The ASB is the best baseball game I have seen-and the QFC with some upgrades on its playability has the potential to be one of the best football games ever manufactured-add to that Turok 2 which is already a proven seller, and some of the secondary titles-motocross, shadowman etc. and we have to have an early XMAS. I don't put any creedence in today's move-with the Dow down 200, I don't expect to see too many buyers of anything-Guess we have to hold on just a little bit longer. Gerry

Sold out!! I reported this on the Yahoo Board also, but for those that didn't see it, I went to Software, Etc. today (Babbage), they were sold out of ASB and it is on reorder. Forsaken for p.c. was also sold out and Jeremy McGrath is also selling well. I then went to Target, they were also sold out of ASB and the sales clerk also said it was on re-order, she was emphatic about how well it has sold! The television screen in that section was playing advertisements of games. I didn't study it for more than a couple of minutes but I saw ads for ASB, Forsaken and other Acclaim games. I was very impressed. I still haven't checked Toys R Us and some other stores, but I was excited to confirm what we have heard about sales. It isn't just a rumor. Acclaim should post some very healthy profits in the next year, and I am looking for earnings to beat estimates for the last quarter since all the titles were shipped in time and sales should reflect on the balance sheet, that is, initial sales. The reorders will of course make this quarter's profits very healthy as well, if not more and IMHO the estimate of .04 should be beat.
