Thanks, Dan. I knew you'd gobble the bait (LOL).

I also hear the "obscene" part is supposed to be a big part of the appeal the works of a certain novelist cum philosopher have for callow young minds, enough to overcome a prose style many consider somewhere in the "crap" neighborhood.

Ah yes, the idealism of youth. Tell me honestly, Dan, don't you wish, deep down, that you still possessed some? I don't find weary cynicism to necessarily be conjunctive with the maturation process. Accepting this as inevitable makes one old before their time.

As for the statist part, I still got that open challenge to the "Who is John Galt" crowd, where do you (and Bill) want to go today? Bahamas, with that capitalism.org guy?

There is nowhere else to go. For better or worse, the battle will be fought here.

Some think those who whine about things but don't try to change them are crybabies, but who can say?

I agree. I try, with callow idealistic fervor <VBG>, but I'll admit that tired indifference is a much easier road to travel.

I have read the Sherman Act, FTC Act, Clayton Act, and Robinson-Patman Act. All written in brain-cracking, obfuscatory legalese (sp?). Reduced to plain, simple English, they basically state that anyone in business is a potential criminal, with success and dominant market share being the criteria that triggers punitive sanctions. Reduced even further, one could argue that they make the capitalist economic system, per se, illegal.

Regards, JB

I have just installed Win 98 on a AMD 486 dx 100. It would not run with 16 mb, so I upgraded to 48. It is now faster than a P133 with 80 mb running NT 4.0 for many applications. It has also been running for three days staight, with no perceptable memory leaks.

Hi Dan,

I think the antitrust laws are unnecessary. I also think that the intellectual property rights that MSFT uses to its advantage need to be overhauled. I think anyone should be able to sell anything they can copy/modify, bwdik?

FWIW
