Gary-- This hall is in Rock Hill S.C, which is about 15 miles south of Charlotte N.C. and 65-70 miles north of Columbia S.C. I am wondering how much they are impacting our three Bingo halls in Columbia. The Catawba Indians had a dispute with the state of S,C. over allowing them to have a gaming facility, this went on for a number of years, finally the state agreed to allow them to have two Bingo Halls which would not have the restrictions that they place on other Charitable Bingo Halls , especially allowing them to have big payoffs, whereas the othes (including our halls )are restricted to no more than $8000 pay off at any one session. This hall is going gangbusters based on the large pots offered , the clean large new facility, and it is drawing crowds from large distances. This tribe is also in a court fight with the town fathers in North Myrtle Beach, where they want to locate their second Hall which the state has OKed . The city council does'nt want it located in North Myrtle Beach. Of course the tourist trade here would give them a great draw with their unrestricted pay offs. What bothers me ,is here is an example where a state has given special privleges to one group and it hurts any small operations in the area who can not compete on an equal footing. George Harrison had mentioned ,that there was a vacant Bingo Hall in Florence S.C. that we were looking at. But when we looked at the draw from the Rock Hill operation plus the fact that if they get into N. Myrtle Beach , we would be right in between both Halls. The competition would be too much. It certainly says that there is plenty of demand for Bingo if you can get the right conditions, which has occured in this instance.
