Tom, To paraphrase the old land quote, and apply it to oil, they ain't making any more of it. Actually, they are, but our bones won't have fossilized enough in our lifetimes to see much progress. <G>

Longer term, petroleum is the cheapest, cleanest, most reliable and most mobile form of energy and it is a finite resource. Conservation has become a concern of the past as SUVs zoom down the craggy contours of Interstate highways. Greater affluence, if that is what we are seeing right now, will lead to greater energy use. It always does.

So, long term, I love it. Right now, it is sucking wind.
