A couple of items tonight I thought were interesting...

i) From a Reuters article posted today concerning Kazakhstan....

"Multinational oil companies from the United States, Western Europe and China have promised to spend tens of billions of dollars in oil and gas production and transportation over the next decade."

***I take this to be quite a good sign that the region is considered to be fairly stable economically and politically****

ii) Indonesia Fires Attorney General...

Earlier this month, Soedjono (the old AG) announced that he had launched a broad inquiry into state corruption, but he made it clear that investigators were not directly targeting Suharto and his family!

***OOPS...wrong words to tell the Indonesian people!

It is good to see Habibi doing things to try and turn the country around. Some of these decisions must be difficult for him since he himself is a member of the old boys club.
