The walk was not the brisk one Muffy had anticipated. The unfortunate three legged dog kept toppling over! Tap tap tap klunk, tap tap tap klunk went his little steps. Muffy withdrew a satiny ribbon from the lace chemise that encircled her ample (albeit perky) bosom, tied it securely around Shorty's stump, and held her hand aloft, thusly suspending the poor creature's deficient quarter in the air, and preventing his physical challenge from resulting in repeated topplings. Tap tap tap...and then silence, tap tap tap, silence, was the new "music of his walk." Shorty was grateful. Although Muffy did not know it, Shorty was an extremely intelligent animal, and the gratitude he felt for Muffy at this moment was destined, one day soon, to save her life, such as it was.
