OK, what do you think Qualcomm had in mind when they licensed these folks?

The only surprise from Qualcomm's Perch may be in the amount of time taken to announce product availability. Given Motorola's failure, VLSI's quick(?) time to market should actually enhance the value (or at least the perceived value) of Qualcomm's IPR.

I don't see this as bad news for QCOM.

VLSI, (and LSI, DSPC et al) won't have commercial product available until next year. However, I'm guessing they'll have lead customers designing the new chips into handsets today.

QCOM will have anticipated this. I'm curious as to how they will respond. See my previous posts with Gregg Powers.
