Nokia Gets $200 Million Order For Mobile Phone Network In China
JUN 11,1998 - STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- Finnish telecommunications group Nokia said Thursday that it received an order worth $200 million for the expansion of a mobile GSM network in China.

The contract was awarded by Zhejiang Mobile Communications Co., Ltd., a mobile telephone operator. Under the contract, Nokia will deliver switching centers, base stations and controllers as well as installation, technical support and training. Copyright (c) 1998 Dow Jones

Clark: Thanks for that clip. It was extremely educative. Parts of Asia such as Hongkong and Singapore have more wireless phones and Computers per capita than the U.S or Europe. In the whole of Asia, the phone is a necessity and a middle-class status symbol. In India too, Cellular sales are high though usage revenue is flat.

There is no question that the Cellular world is alive and well in Asia. Those Countries have large populations. In addition the extended family tradition, requires them to be more in touch with each other. A recession or slow will not dampen that.

That article confirmed my observations. Lets hope VLSI will benefit from those markets.
