Walt, interesting you should mention all of the throw away . Just north of Boise is a small town called Idaho City. They removed more gold in that area than Calif and Alaska!... it is estimated that in the rush as much as 50% of the gold at times was thrown out with the rock like you mentioned...the history books have quotes from miners who remember seeing large gold stones going over the conveyor and into the piles.. but at tonnes a minute who could stop and recover...

There have been miners ( and still are ) in that area who have found nuggets in the tailings with metal detectors. I have only found one small one in all the years I have gone up there but it is exciting and fun and this summer I am headed back!....

Lets hope WSP is checking all the sizes before discarding.
