Actually I am toying around with building a smart parser to do just that sort of thing. Ofcourse I am also toying with introducing my own language to illiminate a alot of crpa you have to go throw now. It'll run anywhere, but it will be compiled upon download (by an optimizing compiler nonetheless) and therefore won't suffer Java's performance penalty. As an extra touch (so not to have the compilation take too long) you will be able to specify a section of code as being "runtime interpretable until compilation" to allow front-ends to appear before the whole app is compiled...
