Cyrix MediaGX Processor Selected Again in New
Compaq Notebook

Processor Continues to be Strong Player in Popular Sub-$2000 Notebook
Market

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1998--Cyrix Corporation, a National
Semiconductor company (NYSE:NSM - news), today announced that Compaq Corporation,
the world's largest PC manufacturer, is offering another notebook system using the Cyrix
MediaGX processor.

Targeted at the rapidly expanding sub-$2000 notebook market, the Compaq Presario 1230
notebook computer with the Cyrix MMX-enhanced MediaGX processor offers an exceptional
price/performance value.

Compaq selected the MMX-enhanced MediaGX processor as part of its recent product
refresh. The new Presario 1230 will be sold for only $1,699. The system includes a 233 MHz
MMX-enhanced MediaGX processor, a 2.1G hard drive, 32MB memory, 56K modem and a
24xCD ROM player.

''The MediaGX processor is an ideal solution for the increasingly popular low-cost consumer
notebook market,'' said Forrest Norrod, senior director of mobile products at National
Semiconductor's Cyrix Group. ''By continuing our partnership with Compaq, we are able to do
for the notebook market what we did for the fast-growing sub-$1,000 desktop market -- enable
the best price/performance ratio of any processor company today.''

The MMX-enhanced MediaGX processor represents true system-design innovation and
intelligent integration. By merging graphics, audio, memory control and the PCI interface onto
the microprocessor, this revolutionary PC architecture delivers powerful, easy-to-use
multimedia technology at an affordable price while optimizing battery life with its low-power
design. The MediaGX processor is currently being manufactured on a .3-micron process,
moving to National's state-of-the-art .25-micron process this summer.
