When the market panics, all ships are sunk, people want to protect their profits, I wish I did that with xerox. But to sell HD now? before split? they make me laugh. Lets think 1 short year ahead, where might HD stock price be then?

re why would anyone sell off HD now?

Welllllll when you are "new"
Last year I panicked and sold Dell at 73. It promptly went to 77. Then 81. I bought it all back there. (Those particular shares have doubled since then:I bought it all the way back up so some shares are a little in the red.). Dell was my long long long term hold. So why did I do it? I dont know. I was seeing 1929 I suppose (No I'm not 90 years old but I read about it!) or even 1987 which I did actually live through (I only had mutual funds then and didnt sell any: Fidelity sent all of us warning letters "Dont sell: we will have to liquidate fine companies at ridiculous prices!")
There are other newbies out there. Or people who do not learn from their mistakes. Or people who cannot control the panic they feel: it is so easy now to buy and sell stocks.
Best wishes for an up day!
