Techie, no, not all companies. Ascend is thriving in SE Asia right now.

And, no, I did not call SEG and WDC. But, I sure didn't put any of my hard earned money into either of those dogs.

regarding the 50 DMA, it bounced pretty hard off it a week ago at $78.

It'll do it again now that it's $80.

Techie, I think you need to be a little bit more discriminating in your comments. Technology companies that sell to Asia as a major part of their business such as AMAT may be hurt if they sell in highly competitive markets such as chip makers. But companies supplying essential infrastructure such as telephony and communications will be in much better shape. This has nothing to do with WDC and SEG. They are in trouble because of excess capacity, which has been the periodic bugaboo in this segment. I think there are companies that have not been managed very well and which are now seeking refuge behind the Asian crisis. The dds are good candidates for that.

I think you are correct that Dell was spared major problems based on its minimal Asian exposure. But even there, 35% growth is much less than it did company wide.

I also think invoking nonsense like breaking moving averages is inane at best and probably self-serving. There is no mathematically or statistically demonstrable reason to believe that this is a harbinger of anything. Were you buying when the company broke the 50 moving average on the upside?

I thought not.
