Well, Del, I have missed you!! It is not nearly as fun discussing religion or science without you around. Over at Ask God, Terrence was relating that he was in a restaurant near Hal Lindsey, who said something about his prophecies to the effect that he couldn't get away with saying now what he said some years ago. Lindsey was laughing, if I am recalling the post correctly.

The scary thing is that there are a whole bunch of people who believe his prophecies in their entirety, and I think they threaten world peace with this belief system, which makes it imperative that Israel succeed. As the government of Israel becomes more conservative and settles more Palestinian land, however, more Palestinians become very radical and support Hamas, which is much more radical and violent than the PLO. It is a very scary situation, if war breaks out again. Many people believe that World War III is most likely to start in the Middle East, and these nations have, or are in the process of getting, nuclear weapons.

I could not figure out why Newt Gingrich was over there siding with the Israelis against the Clinton administration, which is seeking a peaceful resolution, until I realized that the Hal Lindsey contingent of the religious right are conservative Republicans. Here's a recent article on the subject of Hamas, Arafat and Israel, from the Washington Post:

I was discussing global warming with someone the other day, who challenged me, saying there was no evidence at all that it was caused by humans, and that the earth gets warmer and cooler throughout time. My question to you is essentially what do we know now scientifically at this point that would prove that the earth is warming because of the activities of human beings?

I'm glad you're back!!!
