Your last comment seemed somewhat contradictory to me Pat. I don't get how you simultaneously make them "sweat it out" and bail them out with tax dollars.

The sweating comes first. The bailing later. Last week when Rubin said the U.S. wouldn't support the yen, I took that to mean Japan had to save itself. He's eased on his stance since then and with the call for action from the EU meeting, and with Japan asking for support, I see the possibility of assistance though I don't know it what form.

If Japan collapses totally, and China devalues, I would think all markets would fall even further than they already have, at least for a time. Maybe not a world collapse, but definitely a "mother of a correction."

I'd rather go up from here.
