everyone is fixated on the October date and that's correct insofar as the tax consequences of the transaction are concerned. WHAT IT MEANS IS THAT IT CANNOT CLOSE BEFORE THE OCTOBER DATE! The Compaq acquisition of DEC was announced in January, I think, and it just closed a few days ago with the DEC shareholders' vote. It took over 4 months for the transaction to be completed from the date it was announced. Think about it - LU (since that's what we're focussing on) can do a deal with ASND in July and not close it until after the October date for the tax-free exchange to occur without penalty. Thus something in the works could be announced anytime in the next 2 - 3 weeks if it can be nailed down. FWIW Dee Jay
