Bill negotiations like those rumored between ABMI and JNJ can take forever and a day to reach a conclusion. Sometimes the conclusion is an acquisition and sometimes it's not. If there is an acquisition it can all work out well for shareholders like the Schneider acquisition has for BSX shareholders today. Sometimes shareholders get the shaft like Nortel shareholders did yesterday when they announced the acquisition of Bay Networks.

Looking at what has happened today to AVEI shares I would say shareholders are very happy they did not have to foot the bill for Schneider. How would JNJ or AVEI do if one of these companies acquired ABMI? I think quite well. It would add a very broad product line including an atherectomy device in phase II testing. Neither JNJ or AVE has anything like that in their arsenal of minimally invasive surgical devices.

I don't think it unreasonable to assume ABMI shareholders have much to look forward to if the company is acquired. Furthermore I certainly do not think JNJ has lost interest in ABMI as a possible acquisition target. I mean sometimes rumors can be based on fact. Will ABMI be acquired by JNJ or AVEI? It would be pure speculation to say yes. These days it's very easy to find evidence that AVE is actively looking at 10 to 12 different possibilities. I honestly believe ABMI is one of them. Can I prove that AVE is looking or that JNJ has talked with ABMI? Absolutely not. I do think talks could still be going between ABMI and JNJ, and ABMI and AVE as well.

In fact it is possible that a bidding war could ensue for ABMI one of these days.

GO ABMI!
