Ben, ROY, UTAH, U.S.A., 1998 JUN 15 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes.
NEC Corp. [TOKYO:6701] has signed a licensing deal with Iomega Corp.
[NYSE:IOM] which gives it the right to manufacture drives for Iomega's
Clik disk format, a drive system for mobile and portable devices,
and develop new versions of Clik.

The deal follows on from a letter of intent signed in April (Newsbytes, April 23, 1998) and builds on an existing relationship under which NEC manufacturers drives for Iomega's Zip format.

"We believe that the Clik drive will be the standard for portable
digital storage," said Tadanobu Furukatsu, vice president and general
manager, NEC. "We are excited about manufacturing and making Clik!
drives available to end users and the makers of portable digital
devices."

The Clik drives are designed to be used with portable computers and
products such as digital still cameras and smart cellular telephones.
They offer removable storage of 40 megabytes, said Iomega.
