VAUGHN: Excellent summary of RSA's and government's challenges now that SUF has settled. We will all be watching the government for any action. I think it possible that Maduna and his staff will now use SUF's experience and the resulting fallout for RSA to build political pressure for serious change. It certainly seems to me that such a political strategy required a settlement where SUF was visibly damaged from its original situation. Certainly Maduna would need obvious damage to SUF and to RSA's interests before he could reasonably expect to carry the day against the very powerful entrenched interests that will be ranging themselves against him if he truly moves for substantive reform. If this is his strategy, he may very well view the damage to SUF and RSA this year as a necessary sacrifice on the country's political altar for changes that will benefit RSA in future years.

The proof will come over time if and as Maduna begins to move. As for whether SUF may expect some help or favor, I think it interesting that CJ termed his recent meeting with Maduna as "very positive" and then went out and settled. Coincidence? Or simply recognition of political reality? Or no connection at all, perhaps...

Cheers!

Steve

Hi, Vaughn

To your list of what SUF and RSA did not winner, perhaps those are all exactly the things DB was wanting.
