Richard,

A Buy at open execution is very risky, as you found out. You buy at the open at the ASK, which can be much higher (at the whim of the MM's) than the bid. Maybe your price of 19 13/16 is the bid at the open? What what the ASK at the open?

Richard,
We all have been burned with a market order and I still hold my breath
when I feel it is the only way
I can grab the stock immediately.
My experience has been that they can/should look at the "tape" and "Time" to determine what went down however if you do not stay on their ass and I mean stay on their ASS they will give you some lame excuse/
reason.

Good Luck and stay on their ass!
John

PS Threatening or taking your account elsewhere will have absolutely no effect...IME
Misery doesn't like company but my experience cost me $1,800
Hard Lesson for me ...I didn't STAY on their ass. :-(

PSS Don't let them get away with the "Are you sure you are getting realtime prices" Excuse number 1,200,432

Richard, also keep in mind there may have been a limited # of shares available at the opening price and you may have been close to the back of the line. You ARE paying too much commission if you are regularly placing market orders.... especially if they are large ones.

Richard,

The best brokerage co. I have ever dealt with for such matters like yours is Schwab. Sometimes I put a limit price to sell or to buy at market open and they come and fill at a better price than my limit price. This is wonderful. It never happened to me like this at any other place. Besides, if you trade online, you pay only 29.95 for a few hundred shares. Look them up. You will be happy. I am not trying to plug them, but I have been so happy with their decency and wonderful mannerisms of the employees that I am sincerely trying to share this with you. Peace and good luck!

I found the following on the trades in MRVC

15 mins; i.e. 9:45 means 9:30). As you can see,
they are all over the place. You may be able
to guess which one is yours.
